Summa Elvetica: A Casuistry of the Elvish Controversy by Theodore Beale
While this book keeps many of the standard fantasy novel cliches, it branches out beyond the usual fare in several interesting ways. The book is indeed entertaining, as a fiction novel should be, but it has a deeper, more intellectual feel with the philosophical and theological questions that are brought up in the story. Can I call it 'a thinking man's fantasy novel'? While that statement more than likely crosses the line over into hyperbole, I did enjoy reading this book and would recommend it to others. There's not much excuse for not trying it out, as the author believes in making his books freely available(PDF) in e-book form, and this one is no exception.
