Hellgate: London Collector's Edition
It's a pretty fun MMO game. It has quite a number of benefits that I like. There's a free subscription option for cheapy and miserly gamers like me, since I refuse to play games with a monthly subscription - (monthly recurring game subscriptions cause additional psychological problems for me and I just don't need anymore). It combines the RPG elements I like (upgrading weapons and armor), with FPS elements (move and shoot), while leaving out elements that I don't like such as the MMO style of locking on to your target and mindlessly pressing attack buttons in sequence, and the usual FPS soldier's fragility to weapons fire. I think such innovations such as the dye kits and all armor dying options, which allow you to select and use one color scheme for your mish-mash of armor types, are great and we'll see them soon in other games too. Overall, it's a fairly fun and enjoyable game. It's great for playing along with friends. However, I have noticed that the quests are the same for all classs... and so are all levels. It does randomize the layout of many of the areas or parts of the areas you're in, but it's not really noticeable. It still just all feels the same. The fate of the game is now in doubt, as the developer has essentially folded and it appears that there will be lots of legal wrangling over the rights of the game. It doesn't seem to be a good deal for the players. But if you find it cheaply, you can certainly try out single player at the very least, and maybe the community will be able to get some multiplayer servers up if all the official ones go away.
