The Thirtymile Fire: A Chronicle of Bravery and Betrayal by John N. Maclean
Covers the story of the Thirtymile fire tragedy in which four young firefighters were killed when they were trapped by the fire in a Northwest canyon. I found it quite interesting that the Endangered Species Act played a part in the series of errors that led to the deaths. The helicopter with a bucket was delayed for about five hours, largely because of confusion over requirements of the Act, and the fact that none of the lower-ranking personnel wanted to stick their neck out to give the go-ahead. Bureaucracy and regulation is not your friend.
